It appears that the mounting legal issues Russell Simmons has faced in the #MeToo era have continued to grow. Pitchfork reports that according to a complaint from the County of Los Angeles Superior Court of California, the music and entertainment mogul is currently being sued for $10 million by an anonymous plaintiff who alleges rape and inflicted emotional distress. This allegations comes on the heels of a multitude of sexual misconduct accusations made by several different women over the last half-year, which led the mogul to step away from many of his businesses.
In the latest accusation, a women who is identified anonymously as Jane Doe recounts an encounter after she attended a Def Jam concert with her elementary-school-aged son. She alleges that after the show, when she had dropped off her son with a babysitter, she was invited to his hotel room for an “after-party.” Later that night the woman alleges that Simmons invited her into his room, but insisted that it was not intended to be a sexual advance. She states in her accusation that he then closed the door and said he would have sex with her – she states he even threatened to rape her son if she did not comply. The complaint then alleges that Simmons threw her onto the bed and raped her.
Like he has when previous allegations have been put against Simmons, he has issued a statement vehemently denying the accusations:
I vehemently deny all the allegations made against me. They have shocked me to my core as I have never been abusive or violent in any way in my relations with women. I have submitted myself to multiple lie detector tests. I denied forced sex and sexual harassment allegations brought against me in each test; I also answered no to the question, “Have you ever physically forced any woman to have sexual intercourse?” I passed all of the lie detector tests.
