Parker Lane is the new project from musician, singer, songwriter and producer Printz Board, who has won two GRAMMYs for his work on Black Eyed Peas hits “My Humps” and “Don’t Phunk With My Heart.” We have the premiere of his newest song, a breezy cut of folk-pop with guest vocals from singer Lucy Graves. The video keeps a simple motif with animated versions of the two musicians trading their lines. Like much of the rest of the music from Parker Lane, “3 A.M.” has a stripped back sound that reveals the songwriting chops of its creator. As the title suggests, the song deals with two lovers discussing the meaning of a late-night phone call.
Born in Ohio but now currently based out of Los Angeles, Printz Board has worked with a slew of heavy hitters from the music industry, including Dr. Dre, Macy Gray, Keyshia Cole, Katy Perry and Sheryl Crow. Then one day he had the inspiration to pick up his acoustic guitar, drive out to Joshua Tree and write music. The simplicity behind the origins of this project come to bear in the sounds of “3 A.M.”
THe song “highlights the difference between what a woman thinks a 3 AM call is and what a man thinks a 3 AM call is,” he explained. “The female character assumes it’s just a booty call, while the male argues, ‘You’re actually the girl I want to be with. That’s why I’m calling you in the middle of the night.’ We all have these ups and downs in relationships. ‘3 AM’ really examines those moments.”
As Parker Lane, he will have a new EP coming out in the Spring of 2018.
