Australian alternative rock fans are getting a special present for the ten year anniversary of the Vivid Sydney festival, as Mazzy Star have announced their first show in five years will take place at the festival, as reported by Consequence of Sound. The lineup itself is stacked with talent, featuring the likes of Solange, Ice Cube, and Dreams but fans will no doubt be the most excited to see Mazzy Star. This will mark the first performance from the group since the tragic death of drummer Keith Mitchell, who passed away last May.
Mazzy Star emerged from the alt-rock boom of the 90’s with a unique sound that was equal parts dream-pop and rock, with their hit song “Fade into You” becoming one of the quintessential tracks from that era. Eventually, the group went on an extended hiatus after the release of Among My Swan in 1996, eventually reuniting to record a comeback album in the form of 2013’s excellent Seasons of Your Day.
Lead singer Hope Sandoval has kept busy during the group’s long hiatuses, collaborating with My Bloody Valentine’s Colm Ó Cíosóig on a couple of stunning albums as Hope Sandoval & the Warm Inventions.
The Vivid Sydney festival will take place from May 25th to June 16th.
