Mxdwn has just reported that the Bud Light Roots Jam scheduled to happen on March 17th was cancelled due to concerns about an alleged bombing threat. The announcement came around 8:30 pm through a tweet which later was deleted. According to a set list, the show would have included appearances from Daniel Rateliff, Dermot Kennedy, Ludacris, Daryl McDaniels (DMC of Run DMC) and Jessie Reyez.
The suspect identified behind the threat is Trevor Weldon Ingram, 26, who was arrested by Austin police at 11:15 p.m. on saturday and placed into custody for Terroristic Threats—a third-degree felony, Pitchfork reveals. The Austin Police Department, however, searched the venue carefully and found no threat.
Bud Light has also issued a statement via Twitter in which it apologises to the fans for the inconvenience, claiming the “safety and the safety of all fans at SXSW is our most important priority”.
After releasing a statement regarding the nature of the threat and the arrest of Ingram, the Austin PD also specified how no other threats or danger related to the incident should be expected.
The city of Austin, however, has been recently shocked with a series of bombings in the past two weeks. According to New York Magazine, in fact, three packages have gone off and seemed to be targeting African American families.
The two families involved are those of Stephen House, who was killed on March 2nd, and Draylen Mason, who was killed on Monday. They have known each other for a long time “and go to the same church”, says New York Magazine.
A third bomb has also exploded, which injured 75-year-old Esperanza Herrera, but according to the local NAAPC it may have been intended for “another person who might be connected to the House and Mason families.”
