Phoenix x Los Angeles DJ Mija wowed many, both fans and newcomers, with her debut EP How To Measure The Distance Between Lovers — and now one of her most personal tracks from that release comes to life in a new music video.
The track “Notice Me” hinges on the self reflection and deep emotion at work in Mija’s new release. The beautifully shot video, directed by OWSLA visionary BrokenInt, highlights this latest chapter of the producer’s career that sees her embracing her own intensely personal lyrics and confronting vulnerable moments.
In her own words, the video represents “the idea of wanting something badly, and the suffering from being lost inside your own head. it’s not until you reach the point of realization that you are able to let it all go; allow the emotions to wash over you, as you begin the journey to self-actualization.” Self love is your best friend and self doubt is your worst enemy. “Notice Me,” in this case focuses on that internal battle.
The clip itself features Mija existing in two different world. In one, she sits in the dark save for some neon signs and stares into screens of static. In the other, she’s looking for light on the beach and searching for hope in flowering fields. As the day turns to night, she’s once again wandering the streets of Los Angeles, hiding behind cigarette smoke and feeling pretty lost.
