Stepsisters and Former Throwing Muses Bandmates Kristin Hersh and Tanya Donelly Performed “Two Step” Together Live

Kristin Hersh and Tanya Donelly reunited on stage over the weekend in Boston to perform a touching version of the Throwing Muses classic “Two Step.” The two were playing a series of makeup concert dates from the fall and had indicated previously that they would perform some Throwing Muses songs together on stage, as reported by Slicing Up Eyeballs.

Donelly and Hersh, who are stepsisters, formed Throwing Muses while they were still in high school in the early 80’s, with the group releasing a series of critically acclaimed albums before Donelly left the group to form Belly with The Pixies’ Kim Deal. While Throwing Muses continued after Donelly’s departure, the band eventually broke up in the mid 90’s, eventually reuniting periodically over the course of the past fifteen years.

One of the resulting reunions led to the recording of a new album in the form of the experimental Purgatory/Paradise which came out in 2013.

Hersh and Donelly are still active in their solo careers, with Hersh releasing the incredible Wyatt at the Coyote Palace last year.

Meanwhile, Belly has reunited and are releasing a new album this year, Dove, their first in twenty-three years, on May 4th. Belly has already released the lead single from the record in the form of “Shiny One.”
