Amen Dunes Explore Forgiveness and Reckoning on Hypnotic New Song “Believe”

Amen Dunes are gearing up for the release of their great new album Freedom, which is out on March 30, 2018. It will be their first new album since 2014’s Love and it took three of those years to create Freedom. Today the New York band, which is led by Damon McMahon, releases their latest single from the record, “Believe.”

While certainly experimental, the song has enough traditional songwriting elements to function as an incredible pop song. McMahon’s warbling voice conveys the powerful lyrics, which are based upon his mother’s illness and mortality. According to the McMahon, this stood as a “spiritual pivot point” for the musician. He weighed what he felt was his mother’s disregard for her life with what eventually becomes admiration for her approach to death.
