Hip hop duo Eric B. and Rakim have recently announced they will join forces for a tour in more than 20 years. The duo, which was formed in Long Island in 1986, is famous for releasing a record that many now won’t hesitate defining a hip hop classic, Paid In Full.
The duo reunited last year for a one-off string of performances in celebration of their masterpiece 30th anniversary, but rumors of a full-length tour in 2017 were never confirmed, as Spin says. This time, however, it’s official: the duo will be back on the road starting April 8th in Boston at the House of Blues, as they announced on their official Twitter account. Performances include Irving Plaza in New York City on April 10th and The Paramount in Huntington, NY on April 12th.
As mxdwn has reported, the duo started experiencing trouble in the early 90s when producer Eric B. was presented with a release contract, which he refused to sign in order to avoid frictions with his bandmate. A court settlement followed after which Eric B. repeatedly stated that the chemistry between the two artists was never in question and that the only problems they were experiencing were caused by their record label.
After breaking up in 1993, Rakim went on his own and released several solo albums, the most recent of which is 2009 The Seventh Seal. The duo was also nominated to be inducted in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2011. However, they didn’t make the cut as inductee.
