A Place To Bury Strangers Construct a Bizarre Instrumental Statue in New Video for “There’s Only One Of Us”

A Place To Bury Strangers are back with a video for yet another release from their newest album Pinned, which promises to be one of the best albums of a very young 2018. The song features Oliver Wackermann and Lia Simone Braswell trading off vocals over a dissonant, simply aggressive guitar sequence. The song itself isn’t overly complicated though incorporates enough of the experimental energy that A Place To Bury Strangers has famously incorporated into their sound.

Describing the song, Wackerman expressed how we are all people, animals, inhabitants of our plant. It’s incredible to be alive, and “There’s Only One Of Us” perfectly encapsulates that sentiment. “The inspiration comes from the foghorn bass line, military drum beat, and kamikaze guitars that intimate a war taking place,” said video director Elizabeth Skadden. As she explains, the instrumental statue is a “totem” that the bands builds over the course of the video, which represents the work the trio does to create their art. She adds, “The lighting setups were inspired by a Fad Gadget performance from the 1980s, and films by Pedro Almodovar and Kathryn Bigelow.”

The band will be playing a very ambitious set of dates at SXSW this year, performing at least two shows every day between 3/15 and 3/18. The band then takes a break before returning for European dates and a summer 2018 tour.
