SXSW Music Festival 2018 Announces Tenth Round of Showcasing Artists Featuring Talib Kweli, Ted Leo and Roky Erickson

Another week, another great new annoucement of talent that’ll bless the stages of the SXSW 2018 festival in Austin, TX. We are official within the festival month, so preparations for the year’s biggest showcase of talent in the industry is readying for deployment. This week’s announcement includes several big names as well as a whole load of rising talent that will soon become household names.

Headlining this week’s announcement is Talib Kweli, the Black Star rapper who has found himself in the news for various reasons this month. His former partner Yasiin Bey has stated that he is working with Kweli on new Black Star album, something that will get old-school hip-hop heads in a serious tizzy. Meanwhile, Kweli has also taken a stand on performing at the same venue as purported white-nationalist metal group Taake, cancelling his show.

Other notable artists performing at this year’s festival include longtime indie and punk darling Ted Leo, who will be on the road in support of his latest album (without the Pharmacists), The Hanged Man. It was his first album in six years. Also performing at the venerable southern music festival is Roky Erickson, perhaps best known for his role in the 60s psych almost-stars The 13th Floor Elevators.

Additional artists in this round that are worth note include Action Bronson, Hop Along, Hiss Golden Messenger, Monogem, A Giant Dog, August Greene (featuring Common, Robert Glasper and Karriem Riggins), Tinashe, Penguin Prison, Nancy Whang, LPX – who is specified as being “between sets” and Yonatan Gat. There are a lot of DJs in this 10th round of showcasing artists, bringing an introspective and sometimes danceable atmosphere to the venues they perform at. These DJs include Dj Anarchy (Houston TX), Dj El Indio (World Hood Set) (Sacramento CA), DJ Enuff (New York NY), DJ Juls (London UK-ENGLAND), DJ Mix Master David (Atlanta GA), DJ Novela (Sacramento CA), DJ Pumkin (Seoul SOUTH KOREA), DJ ROCRYTE (Seattle WA) and DJ Zetroc b2b All Day Ray (Austin TX).
