New Zealand lo-fi rockers Unknown Mortal Orchestra have released a brand-new song in advance of their upcoming record Sex & Food, which is coming out on April 6th via Jagjaguwar. “Not in Love We’re Just High” examines the mania and euphoria of a couple on drugs who realize that they don’t actually have any feelings for each other: the drugs have created an environment where this appears to be the case.
The song rides a slick Wurlitzer part and features plenty of smooth vocals from Ruban Nielson along with some grooving drum beats. With its ultra-compressed and lo-fi production values, the song has its own unique sound and feel: recalling classic R&B and modern indie music. As has been the case with recent music videos, “Not in Love We’re Just High” features a cartoon fly along with hands playing a piano. Eventually, the scene changes to an empty dancefloor as the song ends.
Unknown Mortal Orchestra has just recently announced a massive North American and European tour, so look for the band to continue to blow fans away with their powerful live shows.
