After tweeting about a “realistic” upcoming release, art-pop singer Grimes revealed the decision to withhold a new album allegedly due to the current “trash” condition of the music industry. Moreover, as mxdwn reported, the album was partly inspired by the game Dark Souls 3, in which the user is an unarmed demon who rises from his grave and fights against other demons.

Rumors followed such events and triggered the suspect that the artist was experiencing troubles with her management, Jay-Z’s Roc Nation. While the original Instagram post, in which she accused the music industry of being “trash,” was shortly deleted, Grimes clarified on twitter that Jay-Z had always been very supportive of her and her art and that there was no problem with Roc Nation.

However, just recently Steregum reported how she is working on final album for her “shit label” (4AD) and that she might choose to go fully independent or to release a new record for another label. She also revealed that the album will have a “high collaborative” feature and that an hypothetical fully-indie accomplishment would be characterized by a dark and chaotic record. She later apologized for “spreading bad vibes” and criticizing her label in a following post in which, according to the Fader, she announced that she was making a million beats.

Luca Di Fabio: I'm a musician, writer and art aficionado. After spending my youth and teenage years studying music, I developed a fervent interest in writing. I studied political science in Turin, Italy while simultaneously working for three different online newspapers, where I was in charge of producing content, editing and assisting the editor-in-chief. After spending a year in London at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, I completed a Certificate in Songwriting and decided to move to New York City where I enrolled to the New School, from which I graduated in December 2017, majoring in Liberal Arts.
