Festival season is just around the corner as tickets and lineups are being released every day. According to the Phoenix New Times, music festival Form Arcosanti has finally announced their 2018 lineup which features the likes of Chance the Rapper, Charli XCX, Beach House, and Fleet Foxes, so, prepare your ears for the best sounds they will be able to find. Form Arcosanti is a music festival curated by the Los Angeles famous band Hundred Waters and has been a part of the festival circuit since 2014.

The town in which the festival is featured in, Arcosanti, is a place unlike any other. The topography of the town was designed after the ideas of architect Paolo Soleri. His designs are created with the thought of minimizing the destruction that tags along with urban development. Essentially, this town was designed with the idea that there are ways and forms in which we can harm the earth less. In 2017, Soleri’s daughter came out in an essay of the past abuse she experienced from her father during his life. The organizers and founders of Form have released a statement in support of Soleri’s daughter Daniela. The organizers have also decidedly planned educational elements surrounding sexual assault and abuse and will also be donating proceeds to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

The festival Form was created and hosted in Arcosanti by happenstance. When the drummer and the guitarist of Hundred Waters were planning a release party for their 2014 The Moon Rang Like a Bell, the band gravitated towards Arcosanti for their celebration. The first year Form took place with around 27 artists booked to play.  For attendance the members of Hundred Waters went to their friends and acquaintances and invited, personally, about 75 people with around 750 regular concert goers as well. The best part was that it was all free. Unfortunately that is not the case anymore. If you want or need to experience a completely once in a lifetime music extravaganza, go here for tickets. You will dream about the times you had there for the rest of your life.

In the past, Form has featured the greats such as Solange, Skrillex, and Father John Misty

UPDATE (5/9): According to a press release, Chance the Rapper will no longer be performing at the festival. In his place will be Flying Lotus and his 3D show. The statement from the festival’s representation is as follows:

“Due to unforeseen scheduling conflicts, Chance The Rapper is unable to perform at this year’s FORM Arcosanti festival. While we are disappointed Chance won’t be with us, we are excited to contribute to his philanthropic initiative SocialWorks and look forward to the next opportunity to support each other’s missions through music.”

Jeremy Bacharach: Born in Los Angeles, CA, Jeremy has always been a lover of music. After graduating Hamilton High School with a focus in technical theatre, Jeremy ventured forth to Portland, Oregon so as to study at Lewis and Clark College. After bouncing around majors, he decided to focus on music composition and theory for the purpose of understanding why he loves what he loves. Aside from his major studies in composition, Jeremy also partook in sutdying Jazz Guitar, choir, and piano for the pure joy (and the requirements). Being able to write about what has become the main focus in his life only brings more joy to Jeremy as he is extrmely grateful to be a part of mxdwn!
