Rock metal band, The Melvins recently shared the April 20th release date of their new album Pinkus Abortion Technician that will feature not one but two bass players: Steven McDonald (Redd Kross, OFF!) and Jeff Pinkus (Butthole Surfers). Today, they shared the album’s lead-off track, “Stop Moving To Florida.”
The new song, “Stop Moving To Florida” is a medley of “Stop,” the James Gang 1969 single, and Butthole Surfers’ “Moving To Florida,” which comes off their 1985 Cream Corn from the Socket of Davis EP. According to Osborne, “I wanted to do the song ‘Stop,’ but I didn’t want to do all of it, and I LOVE ‘Moving to Florida’ so ‘Stop Moving To Florida’ seemed perfect.” To combine two songs into one epic track is an experiment that can go either way in the spectrum but for the Melvins, it hits the spot.
Those who have been loyal fans of the Melvins will find familiarity in the new album’s title, a play on their 1987 album Locust Abortion Technician. The forthcoming eight-track record is available now to pre-order. These pre-orders will include an instant download of “Stop Moving To Florida.” Pinkus Abortion Technician is set to release April 20th via Ipecac Recordings.
