Black Moth Super Rainbow will release new material in May 2018, the band announced. The new album will be titled Panic Blooms, and it’s scheduled to be released on May 4th, through Rad Cult, says Brooklyn Vegan. The release breaks a silence lasted over five years, when they dropped their last LP titled Cobra Juicy, in 2012.
The band, however, posted a 50 second snippet on Youtube, teasing their comeback in May 2018, as revealed by mxdwn, which also underlines how the closest thing to an actual full-length release from the band came in 2016 with an EP titled Seeful Lilac, a collection of unfinished songs and fragments of sounds.
The first track of the record, “Mr. No One” premiered on February 20th on Brooklyn Vegan, which also reveals that the song is set to be released as a 7’’ single on March 16th and it includes a b side which is the result of the collaboration between BMSR leading band member TOBACCO and Ariel Pink.
TOBACCO, in the meantime, has been very busy developing his own projects. In July 2017, he released a track called Got Wet In The Bomb Shelter, reports Earmilk. The single, along with Slaughtered By The Amway Guy, is part of a collection of his early works, specifically between the years 2007-2017.
The album is described as “a f-ed up and bleeding account of depression and the shadow side of human frailty, full of gorgeous warped melodies that exist as their own genre, somewhere between late 90s Warp Records, dub, and chopped and screwed codeine drip”.
The tracklist, with numbers titles such as Baby’s In The Void, Bad Fucking Times and Permanent Hole, and the cover art, which depicts a toothy smile while a scattered eye and nose are half-hidden behind a pair of sunglasses, perfectly reflect such statement.
