Maynard james Keenan, best known for being the vocalist of popular bands such as Tool, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer, gave an update on the new, long-awaited Tool record.
In a tweet he posted on Friday, the singer expressed his satisfaction regarding the fact that the band managed to put the word “final” on the tracks they sent over to Keenan. This doesn’t mean that the album is by any means finished. Keenan said, in fact, that a date for the final recording of the tracks still needs to be scheduled.
Still, the announcement restores faith to those awaiting considering the way Tool usually goes about creating new material. The music, in fact, is written by the three other members of the band, without any input from MJK, who usually brings his contribution by adding melodies and lyrics to the work of his bandmates.
A new record from Tool would quench the fans’ 11 year-long thirst. The group, in fact, has been silent since they dropped 10,000 days in 2006, their last official release.
However, mxdwn has reported that Tom Morello had chance to listen to the instrumental tracks and found them to be epic, majestic and beautiful, while guitarist Adam Jones revealed that lyrics are “coming in hard”. Regardless of its current state of completion, the album will be out sometime in 2018, mxdwn says.
Pitchfork has also reported that Keenan warned fans against a supposed teaser for the new album; a post that appeared on Tool’s social media that said “6-24”, something many interpreted as an hypothetical release date for new work in the making.
However, the singer has also announced via his social media that while new music is in on the way on both Tool and A Perfect Circle front, new material from Puscifer, another of his projects, is being recorded, said theprp.
Keenan, known for his eclectic style and wide range musical and business ventures, sure knows how to keep himself busy these days.
