Grimes Indicates New Album is Delayed Due to “Trash” Music Industry

The decision made by Grimes not to release new music anytime soon is already ensconced in rumor and controversy. The singer spread the news with an Instagram post, later deleted, in which she blamed the delay on new releases on the music industry current status, which she deemed as “trash”.

The act will certainly meet the disappointment of her fans, already tasting the excitement of being able to get new material from her, given the fact that conversing with a fan on twitter a couple of weeks ago, she said a new release in the near future would be “realistic”, as well as the fact that, as mxdwn reported, the singer drew a lot of inspiration from Dark Soul 3, a game in which users impersonate dead warriors fighting demonic creatures.

The art-pop singer latest release was 2015 Art Angels, a work that led Metacritic to give a score of 88 out of 100, as mxdwn said, after which, as highlighted by Consequence of Sound, she took a somewhat lighter, aloof approach. CoS, in fact, reports how she “only” starred and direct Janelle Monáe’s “Venus Fly”, had a collaboration with Taiwanese rapper Aristophanes and made an appearance on The Con X Cover album, in which she teamed up with Hana to become Trashique. The album, which marked the 10th anniversary of Tegan and Sara’s LP titled The Con, saw contributions from highly-praised acts such as Ryan Adams, Paramore and Hayley Williams.

The Instagram post at hand, and may follow-ups tweets have been deleted by the singer, who later rectified rumors about friction with her management, Jay-Z’s Roc Nation.

While clarifying that there is no problem with the management, she also hinted at some unpleasant and troubling behind the scenes happening she had to deal with in previous occasion during her career, and that she ultimately feels privileged to be an artist, which is a luxury, specifies.

Perhaps she was also referring to her abrupt mid-show escape during a concert at the Barclays Center in 2016.

The reason why she suddenly walked off stage was because of the combination of an unfortunate series of events, such a serious death threat caused by a stalker her entourage didn’t manage to catch before the show and a number of health problems that led her to abandon the show.

Luca Di Fabio: I'm a musician, writer and art aficionado. After spending my youth and teenage years studying music, I developed a fervent interest in writing. I studied political science in Turin, Italy while simultaneously working for three different online newspapers, where I was in charge of producing content, editing and assisting the editor-in-chief. After spending a year in London at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, I completed a Certificate in Songwriting and decided to move to New York City where I enrolled to the New School, from which I graduated in December 2017, majoring in Liberal Arts.
