One of the most famous punk bands of all time, Bad Brains, who reject their classification as the fathers of hardcore punk, are also followers of the Rastafarian movement, including elements of funk, soul, and reggae into their music. The band formed in 1977, has nine albums together, and now, Punk News reports that Bad Brains are working on a new record. The rumored, upcoming project would be their tenth studio album overall, and their first since 2012’s Into the Future, released in dedication to the Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch, a friend of the band who passed away six months before the release due to cancer.
It’s interesting to hear that Bad Brains is at work on a new record, especially since it comes from H.R., as he’s been battling a neurological disorder called SUNCT for the past three years. Last February, he underwent brain surgery, but has since recovered and is apparently ready to start working again. “Any day now, we’re scheduled to go into the studio and do some more work on a new album,” he told Punk News. “The greatest album that we did, ‘Into The Future’, came off great, and I really like working with the fellas.” The band has also added a new guitarist, Chogyi Lama. The upcoming album will be their first in over six years.
