10 Best Things This Week (2/9/18)

Howdy folks! Does it feel like Christmas was only five minutes ago? How did it get to be February 9th? If you’re a regular reader of mxdwn, you know we cover a vast array of things. Yes, the world of music, movies, video games and television all collide here in an orgy of sonic and visual stimulus. Every corner of media is announcing everything all at once. Imagine a Flaming Lips concert where each attendee is handed a glow stick and is told to throw them all up in the air at once. That’s about what’s happening right now in the PR and marketing departments of every media creation outlet there is: be it record labels, networks, video game makers or movie studios. Like everyone just said, “Hey! I got an idea. Let’s throw everything up in the air all at once!” Sweet. Never fear intrepid consumers, mxdwn is here for you. For your ease and simplicity here are the ten best things that happened this week.

1. Black Panther movie triumph of superhero filmmaking

Seriously, go see this movie the moment it hits theaters. You won’t be disappointed. Beautiful, thoughtful and intelligent on every level.

2. Kendrick Lamar and SZA release video for new song from the Black Panther soundtrack

And with Black Panther in mind, why not feast your earballs on this wonderful new collaboration between Kdot and SZA. Might be better than anything on his album last year…..

3. Shirley Manson is joined by Fiona Apple for rousing version “You Don’t Own Me”

Two of the best from the ’90s generation of alternative music heavyweights covering a song about steadfast female empowerment? Yes, please.

4. New Avengers: Infinity War trailer revealed during the Super Bowl

Somehow, even a 30-second cut of the longer trailer managed to even be more thrilling.

5. New Cloverfield movie announced and released right after the Super Bowl ends

Only problem is, the movie didn’t live up to the standard of the previous two Cloverfield movies.

6. Deadpool 2 new trailer shows debut of Josh Brolin’s Cable

Sheriff Deadpool is in town! Dare you not to laugh.

7. Westworld reveals new trailer for 2nd season

Forecast calls for dark with lots of robot murder.
