When artists prepare to release a new album, the one things that fans look forward to is, that studio cover session, and with streams being the best way to keep them up to date, more platforms are allowing this to happen. But even more exciting than this, is seeing who the band decides to cover.
The Scottish rockers, Franz Ferdinand, did the most unexpected cover to pay tribute to the authentic alternative indie/alternative country singer, Angel Olsen.
Although hardly expected, the indie rockers iconically executed one of her songs for SiriusXM, “Shut up Kiss Me”.Coming from her 2016, My Woman album.
“Shut up Kiss Me,” makes complete use of the vocal excellence and cadence of Olsen. Yet although seeming like an unlikely match, Franz Ferdinand grabs ahold of the song and not only makes it work, but arguably compliments the attitude that Olsen intended for the song to possess.
Franz Ferdinand’s last album was the 2013, Right Thoughs, Right Words, Right Action, and although they shared the stage last year with their anti- Trump song “Demagogue.” The band also worked with Sparks to form FSS and release a self title album in 2015.
While the frontman Alex Kapranos, was part of the supergroup BNQT with the four members of Midlake, along with Band of Horses’ Ben Bridwell, Grandaddy’s Jason Lytle, and Travis’ Fran Healy. BNQT’s debut album, Volume 1, came out in April 2017 via Dualtone/Entertainment One/Bella Union.
