When bands collide, it is a supernova. The collaboration between Minnesota post-punk band POLIÇA and trans-European orchestral collective s t a r g a z e is about to see the light of day when their collaborative album Music For The Long Emergency comes out next week.

Today, the collaborating bands have shared the stunning visuals for their second single off the record, “Agree.” The music video tells the journey of two outlaws. The whole visual clip cements the fate of the two into eternal love. Throughout the video, the two characters are sometimes depicted not as full figures but as fragments, pieces of what a human body would look. Speaking of the video, director and editor Maria Juranic said: “[‘Agree’] felt like a song for a lover,” says Juranic, “There seemed to be a push and pull in the lyrics, which inspired the idea of a dangerous relationship like the one of the outlaws.”

Music For The Long Emergency is a seven-track LP and, according to POLIÇA vocalist Channy Leaneagh, is about “those contradictions in life. How you can be going through tragedy, never-ending wars, but you still also are dealing with human relationships and love and romantic troubles.”

For both bands, this record is “an example of the truly healing effects of making music with your friends,” says Leaneagh. “And while it doesn’t necessarily make things better, it builds community.”

POLIÇA and s t a r g a z e first met in 2016 in s t a r g az e conductor André de Ridder’s living room in Berlin. Though the collaboration started in that room, the process continued like a ping pong match for 18 months with the bands exchanging ideas and music over email, mp3 files, video conferencing, and the occasional meet-up in Berlin, Minneapolis, and Eau Claire. The result is just weeks away from being shared. The album, Music For The Long Emergency comes out February 16th on Transgressive/Totally Gross National Product. Fans can pre-order the album here.
