According to Consequence of Sound, Thurston Moore is at it again with new music. This time, though, the new track will be released on a new 7-inch vinyl fresh off the press. The song, aptly titled “Mx Liberty” is a politically charged heavy rock song featuring guitar styles reminiscent of both the 1980s and 1990s with the vocal power of the 1970s punk era. This project also features the styles of Deb Googe of shoegazers My Bloody Valentine.
Side A of the new record features the new track “Mx Liberty,” which is a hard-hitting punk song taking its aim at the orange humanoid claiming leadership over the United States. Moore says that the new song is a “punk rock broadside to the current man-boys of the USA government in response to their mockery of democracy.”
Side B, though, features a cover of the 1977 french-punk song “Panik,” originally played and written by punks Metal Urbain. Check out the original here.
All material recorded for this new 7-inch release was recorded by Moore, Deb Googe, James Sedwards, Jem Doulton amongst others. The project will come into fruition on February 19th, “Not My President’s Day.” Pre-order it here.
Thurston Moore was an original member of Sonic Youth as well as a slew of other bands and projects. In 2004, Moore was given the honor of the 34th ranking of Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time and was given the number one spot of the same title by Spin, though it was rightly shared with his bandmate Lee Ranaldo. This part year, Moore has released two full-length albums which involved experimental rocker Charles Hayward (The Heat) and are beautifully titled Rock n Roll Consciousness and Improvisation.
