The SXSW lineup just keeps on building, with a sixth round of artists announced for the Austin, TX festival in March. With just over a month to go before the festivities, this edition of bands is a little more top heavy than the last few announcements, featuring a plethora of indie heavyweights.
The biggest name this round is probably Albert Hammond Jr., who has a strong solo catalog in addition to his work with The Strokes. It’s been a while since we’ve had new music from Hammond Jr. – his last release being 2015’s Momentary Masters – hopefully this round of shows in 2018 features some new music.
Nashville guitar-pop band Bully will be bringing their grungy anthems down to Austin, fresh off of the triumphant release of their excellent second LP Losing. Hailing from the next state north are White Reaper, who deliver buzzy garage anthems with just a touch of retro stadium rock grandiosity. Their second album The World’s Best American Band further honed their infectious style and was one of the best rock albums of 2017.
Wye Oak were in the news just a few days ago after they announced their new album, the much-anticipated The Louder I Call, The Faster It Runs. Their sixth studio album, it follows up their 2016 release Tween. White Fang are a goofy stoner punk band – the fact that their own website bills them as “The Stupidest Band On the Planet.” Despite this nonchalance, they are legitimately talented musicians and musicians with a deep repertoire of songs. Finally, French singer Fishbach will be making her way out to the States to play at the festival. She releases an album this month titled A Te Merci – it’s the American release of the album. Back home in France the songs has been widely acclaimed.
Other new artists announced that will be performing at the festival include 16 the Olympus (San Antonio TX), American Sharks (Austin TX), Ari Roar (Dallas TX), Bamsworth (San Antonio TX), Beat Root Revival (Austin TX), BRAINWAVVE (Austin TX), Buck Meek (Austin TX), The Bvtcher (Austin TX), Calliope Musicals (Austin TX), Chadney Christle (Dallas TX), Churchwood (Austin TX), Death of a Dream (Austin TX), Fort Never (Austin TX), Golden Dawn Arkestra (Austin TX), Inflatable Robot (Austin TX), Jesse Dayton (Austin TX), Giant Kitty (Houston TX), Knife in the Water (Austin TX), Kydd Jones (Austin TX), Devras Plexi (Austin TX), Dr. Bobby Banner, MPC (El Paso TX), Dryspell (Austin TX), Lisa Morales (San Antonio TX), Bonnie Whitmore & Her Band (Denton TX), Crocodile Tears (Austin TX), HoK (San Antonio TX), Medicine Man Revival (Dallas TX), Mélat (Austin TX), Micki Miller (South Bend TX), Royal Forest (Austin TX), Sass (Austin TX), Small Houses (Austin TX), Spaceboifresh (Dallas TX), T.Y.E (Dallas TX), and Temple of Angels (Austin TX).
