good news is that this is only being down so that he can focus on four different albums that he’s working on concurrently, and therefore felt would be best to step back.
In the statement, he describes one such project being his DVD release of the performance of Ocean Machine, which he describes as “my favourite DVD release of them all and is a powerful moment, if I can say so myself.” The statement indicates that Townsend has been waiting for “some time now” to express his need to pursue another part of his dream which connects with his current decision to be entirely focused on his four albums.
“I salute the band, the team, and the audience for allowing us to do what we have done and the patience to accommodate my persistent morphing,” said Townsend. “As someone who’s music is connected to his personal growth, I feel an obligation to follow this muse wherever it leads.”
Since 2008 the band has been extremely popular and with seven full length albums, a 2017 Juno award nomination and eight years of touring, we can understand why.
As Townsends says, “Life is short and I have a lot I need to say in some new and different avenues. I will certainly continue to play live in several new ways (starting next year) and I’m excited about some collaborative things that have also come up as well.”
