Bringing together everything young people love, from music, tattoos and cars, KROQ returns to the OC Fairs & Events Centre in Costa Mesa, CA, Friday, March 16 through to Sunday March 18 for its 11th Year.
The event will feature hundreds of world-renowned tattoo artist as well as music performances from pink to hip-hop, including artists such as blink-182 , Lil Yachty, Good Charlotte and many more (list of other artists will be placed below).
To spice things up, Travis Barker’s MUSNIK will be featuring daily tattoo contests , a vendor village and a Miss MUSINK competition at one of the worlds biggest gatherings of elite tattoo artists.
Yet in the midst of the extravagant tattoo’s and beautiful cars, the music plays a huge role in the success behind KROQ. One of this years line ups being Lil Yatchy, we can only expect a treat from this rappers diverse trap music. Ranging from sounds like Charlie brown to the Rugrats themed music, Lil Yatchy is nothing short of exciting and deliberate with his beats and style. From his “mumble style” rap, to his extravagant fashion choice his songs have been described as catchy, and music that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
With songs such as “One Night,” “On Me,” and “Peek A Boo” hip hop attendees will be in for a treat with the catchy sounds and energetic performances that Lil Yatchy is guaranteed to bring.
For those who are lovers of punk music, look no further as The Descendents will be in the building!
The Descendent’s music has been described as not only innovative but unprecedented. Formed at time when punk was still pretty young, Stevenson, the co-founder of the band, laid the groundwork for modern punk bands such as Green Day and Blink-182.
Lucky for fans, the Band definitely prefers quality over quantity when it comes to their shows, as they don’t tour too often but when they do, its because they genuinely want to perform. According to sources, Stevenson has always felt that bands who play to many shows because they are told to, get burnt out, and can’t sustain their level of touring past a few years.
Therefore, through his passion to have substance and sustainability, all of the Descendent’s songs follows this same pattern. Almost 100% of their song are an autobiography and have only been written when there is something truly memorable that has happened in their life.
You can see this in some of there songs like “Without Love,” “Spineless,” and “Scarlet Red,”which helped Stevenson deal with recent indues on health and his family.
Overall, as the pioneers of Punk rock, their attendance is an honor and a treat for those who now celebrate the bands that have been inspired by the Descendents.
Taking inspiration from the Descendents, Blink -182 is often descried as pop punk, while also being considered alternative rock. Blink-182’s sound has been characterized as a “mildly tough approach to melodies with a decided adolescent spin”
Throughout their work, their lyrics has included themes of love, family, friends and relationships. In greater detail, this includes adolescent aimlessness, broken hearts and general confusion over the care and feeding of girls.
Nonetheless, there are many of there songs that has been a reflection of their maturity and you can see this when looking at their lyrics in singles like “Whats my Age Agin,” and “Stay Together For The Kids” which touches on the subject of divorce.
Blink-182 produces great songs with even greater lyrics and themes that capture new and old fans in many ways. Their passion for music only seeps through each songs and grabs a hold of its listeners forcing them to be subjects to the themes the song is trying to portray.
From their energy to their intentional lyricism, Blink-182 was one of the “have to have” bands for such a momental event.
Following in the same footsteps as Blink-182 is the hardcore punk band Fear. Some say that to understand Fear, you have to understand and appreciate the intensity of their live shows.
The band is a testament to an age of glorious punk rock hat is now decades old yet still an example of brilliant musicianship that is simple but authentic.
Yet anger is what makes there music so raw and cut throat. On tracks like “Let’s Have a War,” I Don’t Care About You,” “I Love Livin’ in The City” and “Foreign Policy,” Lee’s seething rage at the heart of it as he also professes with his impressive vocal range a complete passionate rhetoric.
He doesn’t scream but he sings with a rich, melodic urgency that works to both terrify and captivate the audience.
The 2018 lineup is looking nothing short of successful with acts such as Strung Out, The Adolescents, Machine Gun Kelly, Wifisfuneral and The Fever 333 also joining the line up, it won’t be of any surprise if this year tops the years before!
