As festival season nears, more and more festivals are announcing their star-studded lineups. Now, it is Girlschool’s spotlight amongst the internet announcements. Through a press release, the festival has announced a large lineup that includes Shirley Manson + The Girlschool Choir, Jay Som, Amber Coffman, Akua, and Kristin Kontrol. Among this amazing musical cast of talent, there are also a slew of non-musical programs and panels of which include a rare Q&A with Carrie Brownstein, Jack Jones Literary Arts featuring Shauna Barbosa, a talking circle by Stronger, and a beautiful songwriting workshop by MUNA. There will also be DJ sets, a photo booth by Nasty Gal and GIF Party, and, lastly, an art area by Elise Mesner Photography. Tickets are already on sale so get them here.
This is Girlschool’s third annual three-day music festival that is fronted 100% by women-identified humans and will take place at the iconic Bootleg Theater in Los Angeles from February 2-4 of 2018. All net proceeds, as stated by the press release, will benefit Writegirl; a Los Angeles based writing and mentorship organization focusing on lighting the powerful fire of young women and girls everywhere.
Girlschool is a women-identified focused and led music and creativity festival in Los Angeles in which they celebrate all women-identified voices. The program was founded by Anna Bulbrook (of Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Beyonce’s LEMONADE, Vampire Weekend, and more). A sum of every ticketed Girlschool event is always donated in support of any “girl-positive 501c3.”
In the past, Girlschool has held two completely sold-out “women-identified-led music and ideas festivals in Los Angeles.” In March 2017, Girlschool with TOMS shoes to bring a festival to SXSW titled We Are One. For all three days, We Are One was completely at capacity. In November of 2017, Girlschool held their first IDEALAB with Phillip Lim and Glenfiddich in which performances were held by the likes of vocal powerhouse Amber Coffman and Mecca Vazie Andrews. They also held at IDEALAB conversations with Whitney Bell and Ashlee Marie Preston. Girlschool is also “an official curator for Los Angeles’ Red Bull Sound Select.
