Joan Baez has announced a new album as well as a tour, which she has announced her last year of formally touring. In addition to the new album and tour announcement, she has released a new song which shares a name with the LP, “Whistle Down The Wind.” The song is a tribute to her career, reminiscing on her life as a singer, musician and activist. Whistle Down The Wind comes out January 12, 2018 on Bobolink / Razor & Tie Records.

The new album features songs written by a variety of artist like Tom Waits, Anohni, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Josh Ritter and Eliza Gilkyson. Talking specifically about her work with producer Joe Henry “It was a hunch on both of our parts that we could make an album together. As it turned out it was a no brainer. We both work fast and were musically on the same wavelength. I work best with musicians who are as willing as I am to wing it and he assembled a group of players who did just that. Meaning invent each song from scratch.”
