Matt and Kim hit peak relevance back during their hit single “Daylight” in 2009, and after a tough 2017 for the band, are ready to take 2018 in stride with an upcoming new album and Spring tour. After tearing her ACL in an on-stage accident, Kim had to take a year off to recover, halting the group’s 2017 tour.
“2017 was not a great year for us,” explained Matt in a press release, “Kim got real depressed during her recovery, and anyone who knows Kim (or has seen her play) knows she’s such a bad-ass upbeat person so it was hard.” “Then of course,” Matt continued, “almost everyday it seemed like there was another terrible headline. I feel since the beginning of music people have used writing songs as a form of therapy, but I’m not sure we ever really did…until 2017.”
Their new single “Forever” shows the duo getting “stuff off our chest” in a “a rally cry to pull together and just overcome all the bullsh*t.” The lyrics “don’t want to live forever / in this world of shit” reference that of “World of Shit” by metal-group Nailbomb, who states “Freedom is a bunch of shit/This is world of shit.”
Matt and Kim’s last release was back in 2016 with the release of their surprise EP We Were the Weirdos during their Coachella performance. The name of their forthcoming LP has yet to be released, as well as a tracklisting or album artwork, but it’s slated for a release this Spring to accompany their return to the stage for their 2018 U.S. Tour.
