Jack White has been plenty busy since 2014’s Lazaretto, writing “Don’t Hurt Yourself” with Beyoncé, recording an album with The Dead Weather, and opened up his Third Man Records vinyl printing plant. Now, off the heels of an interesting video release titled “Servings and Portions from my Boarding House Reach,” wherein selections of the new album were spliced together in between bits of static, Jack White has announced that his upcoming album will indeed be titled Boarding House Reach, due out March 23rd via Third Man/Columbia.
“Boarding House Reach sees Jack White expanding his musical palate with perhaps his most ambitious work thus far,” states the official press release, featuring “a collection of songs that are simultaneously timeless and modern” that incorporates “the same kind of gear he had when he was 15 years old (a quarter-inch four-track tape recorder, a simple mixer, and the most basic of instrumentation).” Joining White on the record is singer-songwriter C.W. Stoneking, drummer Louis Cato (Beyoncé, Q-Tip), bassists Charlotte Kemp Muhl and NeonPhoenix (Kanye West, Jay-Z), synthesizer players DJ Harrison and Anthony “Brew” Brewster, keyboardists Neal Evans (Talib Kweli) and Quincy McCrary (Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Pitbull), percussionists Bobby Allende and Justin Porée, and backing vocalists Esther Rose and Ann & Regina McCrary, as well as longtime collaborators like drummers Daru Jones (Nas, Talib Kweli) and Carla Azar (Depeche Mode).
The limited edition version of the album will be released through Third Man Records’ Vault Package #35, including a colored vinyl version of Boarding House Reach, the complete printed lyrics, a two-song 7″ demo single of “Connected By Love” and “Why Walk a Dog?,” exclusive photographs, White’s poems and a “custom Third Man Records 2018 challenge coin complete with album-specific artwork,” which grants its holder 10% off purchases at Third Man Records’ storefronts.
