Gogol Bordello Releases Beautiful New Song “Seekers and Finders (Acoustic)” featuring Regina Spektor.

Gogol Bordello’s new album, Seekers and Finders, came out in August of this year. Its the Gypsy-punk band’s seventh studio album and their first since 2013’s Pura Vida Conspiracy. It is also their first album produced by the group’s frontman Eugene Hütz. Their title song, “Seekers and Finders,” features Regina Spektor. A few days ago they released an acoustic version.

Gogol Bordello hails from Manhattan’s East Village. They formed in 1999 and gained notoriety for their interesting stage performances and constant touring. They’re an energetic group that love to include accordions and violins in their instrumentation. They’ve appeared in a number of movies, including Everything Is Illuminated, where Hütz co-stars with Elijah Wood, and their own documentary, Gogol Bordello Non-Stop.

“Gogol” comes from the name of a Russian-Ukrainian writer, Nikolai Gogol. According to them, Gogol ‘smuggled’ Ukrainian culture into Russian society, just as they try to do with Gypsy and East-European culture in the English-speaking world. They’re album is worth a listen, so is the acoustic version of “Seekers and Finders.” Listen below.

Conrad Brittenham: My name is Conrad. I am one year out of college and pursuing a career in writing and journalism. I studied literature at Bard College, in the Hudson Valley. My thesis focuses on the literal and figurative uses of disease in Herman Melville’s most famous works, including Moby-Dick, Benito Cereno, and Billy Budd. My literary research on the topic of disease carried over to more historical findings about how humans tend to deal with and think about the problem of virus and infectivity. I’ve worked at a newspaper and an ad agency, as well as for the past year at an after school program, called The Brooklyn Robot Foundry. All of these positions have influenced the way I approach my work, my writing, and the way I interact with others in a professional setting. I’ve lived in London and New York, and have always had a unique perspective on international cultural matters. I am an avid drawer and a guitarist, but I would like to eventually work for a major news publication as an investigative journalist.
