David Rawlings Releases New Video for Grammy Nominated Song “Cumberland Gap”

Award season is here! From the Emmys to the Grammys, all D to A-list celebrities and musicians are preparing themselves for the exciting time filled with gold and beautiful formalwear.

David Rawlings, a country musician nominated for his beautiful song “Cumberland Gap” has just released a video to partner up the beautiful music with imagery. The song begins as immediately as a video. The picture open to two cowboy-esque men, travelling the countryside. Soon the two cowboys are singing together in a tent reminiscent of Harry Potter’s tent in the seventh movie. As the video progresses, one can tell that the video and song open up into a love story involving a man and a woman. The love is lost as a woman stares out into the abyss where her love may be. Though the song contains a badass rhythm drawn from the strum of the guitar, the lyrics and video provide what the music does not: a love story ending in tragic loss. Check out the beautiful, Tennessee-based video below.

In order to produce this video. Rawlings teamed up with Apple Music. The song is nominated for “Best American Roots Song,” earning him and partner Gillian Welch a spot on the awards season. Currently, Rawlings is out on tour in the United States, visiting places like Athens, Nashville, Los Angeles, and Atlanta among others. Check out the full tour below. David Rawlings current tour is in support of his new album Poor David’s Almanack, performing two full sets each night. Performances include a bulk of music from Rawlings’ new album as well as his favorites from his previous two.

Poor David’s Almanack is Rawlings 8th studio collaboration with Welch and spans over 20 years. In the past, the duo has been nominated for their 2011 The Harrow and the Harvest and Nashville Obsolete. All their previous releases are available through their label Acony Records. Jeremy Bacharach: Born in Los Angeles, CA, Jeremy has always been a lover of music. After graduating Hamilton High School with a focus in technical theatre, Jeremy ventured forth to Portland, Oregon so as to study at Lewis and Clark College. After bouncing around majors, he decided to focus on music composition and theory for the purpose of understanding why he loves what he loves. Aside from his major studies in composition, Jeremy also partook in sutdying Jazz Guitar, choir, and piano for the pure joy (and the requirements). Being able to write about what has become the main focus in his life only brings more joy to Jeremy as he is extrmely grateful to be a part of mxdwn!
