Mark Ronson And Diplo Announce New Collaborative Project Silk City

The lineup for Governors Ball 2018 was unveiled the morning of January 3, and though a mind numbing number of artists were announced, some may have announced that there lied a project by the title of Silk City, a duo outfit formed by two of the biggest names in the music industry.

Two of today’s most well-known super-producers Mark Ronson and Diplo have teamed up to form a new duo called Silk City, and while little is known about the project, it is already one of the most exciting acts to watch in 2018. Both artists have proven themselves to be forward-thinking hitmakers in the past, and there is no reason to believe that when they combine forces, what comes out won’t be both potentially revolutionary and extraordinary.

Silk City will be Ronson’s first project as an artist (as opposed to being behind the scenes) since his last solo record Uptown Special, which produced the smash “Uptown Funk!” with Bruno Mars. That being said, Ronson has not been idle since “Uptown Funk!” had taken over the planet. Since, he has worked with Lady Gaga, Adele and Queens of the Stone Age on their latest albums, and he’s surely got more productions coming that haven’t been revealed just yet.

Diplo first revealed that the two were teaming up for something special in an interview with GQ, saying “me and Mark are doing a collab album,” and that they were “trying to do something with disco music.” 70’s influences are always in season when it comes to dance music—see Daft Punk’s GRAMMY-sweeping Random Access Memories from 2013 to popular tracks on any electronic music–focused streaming sites—and between Diplo’s electronic wizardry and Ronson’s deep understanding of what makes music from that era great, whatever they craft is sure to be incredible.

There’s no word on when an album or even just one song from Silk City might arrive, but with their first live performance now on the books, it’s likely that something will arrive sooner, rather than later.
