A Perfect Circle Give Fans a New Year Treat with New Song “Disillusioned”

Maynard James Keenan’s hint of a “New Year’s treat” became a reality this weekend after A Perfect Circle released their new song. “Disillusioned,” a somber start to the new year, boasts a reflective tone. It’s hard to say whether the song wants to be political or introspective, although it gives an impression of both. Keenan’s song has three movements, each gaining in intensity until slowly—piece by piece—fading away.

A Perfect Circle is somewhat of a supergroup of borrowed talent. Keenan was the frontman for Tool and James Iha co-founded The Smashing Pumpkins. Billy Howerdel, Matt McJunkins and Jeff Friedl are not names to scoff at, either.

After an initial delay, A Perfect Circle announced that it would release its new album this year. They have not been active in the studio until recently. Their last album, eMotive came out almost a decade ago and their latest song, “The Doomed,” was their first release in four years. Be on the lookout for A Perfect Circle’s new album in the coming months.

Conrad Brittenham: My name is Conrad. I am one year out of college and pursuing a career in writing and journalism. I studied literature at Bard College, in the Hudson Valley. My thesis focuses on the literal and figurative uses of disease in Herman Melville’s most famous works, including Moby-Dick, Benito Cereno, and Billy Budd. My literary research on the topic of disease carried over to more historical findings about how humans tend to deal with and think about the problem of virus and infectivity. I’ve worked at a newspaper and an ad agency, as well as for the past year at an after school program, called The Brooklyn Robot Foundry. All of these positions have influenced the way I approach my work, my writing, and the way I interact with others in a professional setting. I’ve lived in London and New York, and have always had a unique perspective on international cultural matters. I am an avid drawer and a guitarist, but I would like to eventually work for a major news publication as an investigative journalist.
