L.A. Witch Vibe West Coast Style in New Video for “Drive Your Car”

L.A. Witch

Though the name suggests supernatural, the three ladies of the punk-rock band L.A. Witch are not in fact witches. They do, however, bring magic to their music. Formed in California, the trio consists of Sade Sanchez on vocals and guitar, Irita Pai on bass and Ellie English on drums.

Early September, L.A. Witch delivered their self-titled debut album with Suicide Squeeze Records finally giving fans something substantial to call their own. The past few years have seen the trio performing in shows and sharing singles here and there. It seemed only fitting that they deliver fans what they want. Now as the year comes to an end, they provide fans something else, a brand new music video for their track “Drive Your Car.”

The track, according to Sanchez, is about power and being in control. Directed by Allie Lane, the video for “Drive Your Car” has the trio in the desert as they perform and drag race across the empty landscape. In someone else’s vintage cars, the women of L.A. Witch race towards the horizon. These women are in control of their own lives, and they deal with it by breaking the rules. They perform in the middle of the desert for themselves, rocking out in all black. The video intercuts the ladies as they rock out with their instruments, driving, sitting on cars and staring off into the horizon. They have nothing to prove here, and they know it. There is no doubt that these three women have the power not just behind the wheel but their music as well.

The music video showcases the trio’s witchy power visually by stripping away the bright lights of the city to the bare landscape and allowing the ladies to show their raw talent.

Regarding the clip, Lane had this to say; “With the “Drive Your Car” video, I wanted to evoke a surreal state of adventure that matches the romantic lulls and highs of a road trip. L.A. Witch’s psych rock swells and enigmatic lyrics called for bleached color tones, mirror mirages, and expansive desert landscapes.”

Recorded at Hurley Studios in Costa Mesa, L.A. Witch’s long-awaited debut album had started out as several singles released over several years. “We never really thought we would or could release an album,” the band said regarding the album. “We were really just finding each other and finding our sound.”

L.A. Witch is now available on CD, digital formats, and 1500 LPs on translucent pink vinyl with a download card.
