One of the oddest musical pairings in recent memory will be taking place on Easter Sunday: John Legend and Alice Cooper have both been cast in the new NBC version of the classic musical Jesus Christ Superstar as reported by Consequence of Sound. Legend will be staring as the titular character while Cooper will be taking on the role of King Herod. Tony award-winning director David Leveaux will be taking on directing duties for the new take on the Andrew Lloyd Webber classic.
More than 50 years into his musical career, Cooper continues to tour and release albums, with his latest, Paranormal, coming out earlier this year. The only acting experience Cooper has is a cameo as himself in the famous Wayne’s World.
John Legend has continued to tour and release music, with his latest music video for the song, the thought-provoking “Surefire” was released back in May. Legend recently appeared as Keith in the wildly successful La La Land.
