Two months ago in late October Alice Glass of Crystal Castles came forward with a statement accusing her bandmate Claudio Palmieri (aka Ethan Kath) of sexual abuse. Now, according The Daily Beast, the Toronto Police Department has confirmed that Ethan Kath is now under investigation by the sex crimes unit. Due to the investigation’s active status, the nature of the investigation was not disclosed. Constable Allyson Douglas-Cook has disclosed to Daily Beast that the only information that can be given is that there is an investigation into alleged assault involving Glass and Kath.
In October, Alice Glass released lengthy statement involving the alleged assault against her. She stated that she decided to release this statement due to the “momentum of the moment.” In the statement, Glass writes in the claims that Kath took advantage of her when she was 15 years-old and continued to do so the following years. She details that there was also, allegedly, physical and emotional abuse and used this method in an attempt to gain control of her behavior.
As a result of Alice Glass’s lengthy statement of allegations, Kath has followed suit by suing his bandmate for defamation due to “false and malicious lies”. Furthermore, in a statement release through Kath’s lawyer states that Alice’s “story is pure fiction.”
Crystal Castles formed in 2006 and was founded by members Alice Glass and Ethan Kath in Toronto, Canada. Their debut album, Crystal Castles, was released in March of 2008 and peaked the charts in France, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. As years passed, however, Crystal Castles third studio album, titled III will be their last as the original band.
After the 2012 release of III, about two years later, Alice Glass left Crystal Castles for “reasons both professional and personal.” However, in her October statement, Glass seems to extend upon that thought. She writes, “That band was everything to me. My music, my performances and my fans were all I had in the world. I gave that up and started over not because I wanted to but because I had to…It has taken me years to recover from enduring almost a decade of abuse, manipulation and psychological control. I am still recovering.”
As of now, Crystal Castles still remains a band minus their original vocalist Alice Glass. Ethan Kath will be continued to be investigated by the Toronto Police Department. However due to the ongoing nature, no other information will be released by the police at this time.
