King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, an Australian psych-rock band, has been insanely prolific this year. Their lineup has stayed exactly the same since 2010, and they haven’t had to take any sorts of hiatus between releases that would lend 2017 to be called some sort of “comeback,” and yet they released four albums this year, and ton of singles. Flying Microtonal Banana was recorded in a quarter tuned, microtonal scale, Murder of the Universe was a storied concept record with spoken-word passages, Sketches of Brunswick East was collaborative record with Mild High Club, and Polygondwanaland was released entirely in the public domain.
There’s some rumors about a fifth record before 2017’s end, which came with the release of the single “Green House,” as well as ten-minute video for the song “Crumbling Castle” from Polygondwanaland. The rollout continues with two more singles: “The Last Oasis,” one of their more mellow songs, and “Greenhouse Heat Death,” quite the opposite track that seems to take more from the sounds of Microtonal Banana and Murder of the Universe.
