Watain Return With Punishing New Song “Sacred Damnation”

A Swedish black metal band formed in 1998, Watain perform and spread their “Theistic Satanic” views,  also known as “Spiritual Satanism,” in which individuals believe that Satan is an existing supernatural being that can be contacted and praised, rather than mere symbol. They’re also known for some pretty wacky on-stage antics, such as pyrotechnics and Satanic rituals involving animal carcasses. At a Watain show at the Brooklyn Bazaar back in June 2014, the band doused audience members in pigs blood from a goat skull. As the mxdwn reported, the band used real blood as audience member’s “shrieked… barfed and cried,” while Watain played their intense, thrashing black metal.

Their last record The Wild Hunt, was released back in 2013, but the band has now announced the release of its follow-up after five years, titled Trident Wolf Eclipse. A flyer for the album’s release suggests some featured “guests,” as well as a January 5th, 2018 release date.
