Austra Releases Powerful New Song “Change The Paradigm”

The Canadian synth-pop group Austra delivered their critically acclaimed fourth studio album Future Politics earlier this year. The latest LP featured the song and video for “I Love You More Than You Love Yourself,” a dark portrayal of what depression looks and feels like inside. Now as the year closes, the group has one more thing they would like to share with their new fan base; one more track. “Change The Paradigm,” is a song off Future Politics B-Side.

The song is dubbed “Change the Paradigm,” and it didn’t quite make it on the latest album but according to Austra’s frontwoman Katie Stelmanis in a statement, it is an important song.

“I wish Change the Paradigm had made it onto the record because it directly embodies what I wanted to express on Future Politics – that the most powerful tool we possess for creating a better world is our own imagination. Future Politics was written in a much different climate than what we have today. It’s been difficult to stay positive, but for me the possibility of what lies ahead is not only a weapon of potential, but a source of comfort and faith. We have to believe in the future and our own power to invent it now more than ever!”

With its electronic elements combining with industrial beats, “Change the Paradigm” has the same feel with the other tracks on the LP. It is a dance track with an important underlining message; if you want something different, change the pattern.

As a parting gift for their fans this year, Austra are playing one final show in their hometown of Toronto at the Velvet Underground this Thursday, December 14th. Fans who wish to attend can purchase tickets here.
