Although Alice in Chains started off strong in 1987, they have struggled with many problems since. The Seattle-based group was formed in 1987 with Jerry Cantrell playing guitar, Sean Kinney playing drums, Mike Starr playing bass and Layne Staley singing lead vocals. Their grungy music skyrocketed quickly during the early 90s when other Seattle grunge bands like Pearl Jam, Nirvana and Soundgarden rose to prominence. In 1993, Mike Inez replaced Starr, and by 1996 Staley’s drug issues began to slow down the band. The group was completely stagnant by 2002 when Staley passed away. The group reunited in 2005 and 2006 for tour with William DuVall as their new vocalist. They have since released two albums, Black Gives Way To Blue and The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here, but have kept their tours short, sweet and sparse.
However, a few weeks ago the band announced that they would join the likes of Ozzy Osbourne and Exodus for the Tons of Rock Festival in Norway, The festival will occur in summer of 2018. This morning, the band also announced that they would go on their own North American tour. The tour will begin in Boston in April and end in May in Philadelphia. These will be their frists hows since October of 2016. Dates are listed below, and tour information can be found at their website. The tour will support an upcoming sixth album that the band has been working on since the summer.
