As mentioned by the PRP, Avenged Sevenfold guitarist Synyster Gates sat in with an orchestra at the Video Game Awards Thursday night. Gates and Tina Guo performed a medley of music from various video games to open the awards show at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, CA. The performance was a perfect fusion of melodic instrumentation from the orchestra and some unbending guitar riffs from Gates that made for a fervent work of art. They themes were from Persona 5, Dragon Age: Inquisition, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, The Last of Us, The Secret of Monkey Island, Cuphead, Super Mario World, Doom, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Destiny 2, Mortal Kombat, and The Legend of Zelda. Watch Gates and the orchestra below.
Avenged Sevenfold recently released their new album, Live at the GRAMMY Museum, featuring their first-ever acoustic performances. The acoustic album was recorded during the band’s recent sold out event at the GRAMMY Museum, which included an intimate discussion about the band’s career and new music, followed by the acoustic performance, which was backed by a string section. A percentage of the revenue from this digital-only release will be beneficial to the education initiatives of the GRAMMY Museum, who’s goal it is to “inspire youth to the enduring qualities and cultural significance of music.”
