Hailing from Ohio, Joey Hebdo, better known by his stage name as simply Hebdo, has built a devoted local following with his high-energy performances as a “one-man-band.” Today we premiere a song by Hebdo, “Go Back Home,” that is given the full-band treatment. The song takes a cynical look at the annual tradition so many make during the holidays: the (sometimes painful) visit back to the place you grew up.
While that is a topic nearly anyone can relate to, the song speaks to more than just that. As Hebdo puts it, “‘Go Back Home’ focuses on the feeling of being finished with someone or something, despite its ongoing want for your energy or attention. The title is somewhat of a command, a sort of ‘I got nothin’ left here.’ I think the song can incite inspiration, hurl comfort, and embrace desperation all at the same time.”
Hebdo has released several singles and EPs over the last few years. In fact, his discography on Bandcamp goes all the way back 11 years to 2006. These releases include Keep ‘Em TGTHR, A Thousand Steeples and Double Tango.
