Sad13 Releases New Two Part Video for “Fixina” And “The Sting”

Sadie Dupuis of Speedy Ortiz has released a new music video from her solo project, Sad13, which contains the songs “Fixina” and “The Sting.” Musically speaking both songs feature plenty of jangly guitars, lo-fi synth bubbling and the icy vocals of Dupuis. The two tracks flow incredibly well together and recall a mash-up of lo-fi indie rock with shimmering synth pop.

Stylistically the two-part music video matches both songs, combining an edgy, gritty film designed to look aged and low fidelity. “Fixina” stars Dupuis as a blue-faced monster with wild hair and claws roaming the streets of a city while doing menial tasks such as laundry and riding the subway. The shot selection and camera placement recall old indie movies from the early 1990’s in its visual approach and editing style. “The Sting” also stars Dupuis as someone following the monster from the first part of the video around an icy landscape before discovering a few artifacts it left behind in the snow. This is not the first retro-looking music video for Sad13, as Dupuis released a 90’s workout inspired music video for the song “Get A Yes” late last year.

The first Sad13 album, Slugger, came out late last year and was a big hit among fans of Speedy Ortiz and underground indie fans (check out mxdwn’s review here).
