The National Releases New Video for “Dark Side of the Gym” Featuring Justin Peck

This past fourth quarter of 2017 has been very productive for indie rock band The National. Early September Matt Berninger, Aaron Dessner, Bryce Dessner, Bryan Devendorf and Scott Devendorf their seventh studio album Sleep Well Beast, critically acclaimed album that has been considered their best release to date and has has lead to the Cincinnati natives two Grammy nominations for Best Alternative Music Album and Best Recording Package. The National have also been touring throughout the country, performing singles such as “Guilty Party,” “Carin at the Liquor Store,” “Day I Die” and covering songs from artist such as Talking Heads, The Ramones, and the late Tom Petty. Recently The National dropped video for another track off the album “Dark Side Of The Gym,” which The New Yorker described as “essentially an extended pas de deux, highly technical but low-key, intimate, and a little sexy…The song and the video read like a love letter. At the end, as the music frays and the dancing stops, the camera settles on Delgado’s sorrowful, vulnerable expression.”

The release of the video “Dark Side Of The Gym” was directed, choreographed and starred NYC Ballet Resident Choreographer and soloist Justin Peck and executive produced by former Miami City Ballet dancer and current dance filmmaker Ezra Hurwitz. Also starring former Miami City Ballet mentor and Principal dancer, Patricia Delgado, the video finds the duo gracefully move around a balloon filled auditorium. The visuals and music blend together well to give the innocent feeling of high-school sweethearts sharing a moment on the dance floor while the look on their eyes say “I’m going to keep you loving me, for awhile.” Below you can checkout The National’s new video “Dark Side of the Gym” off their critically acclaimed Grammy nominated album Sleep Well Beast.
