The Limiñanas – Istanbul is Sleepy EP

Dreamy Garage Rock

The Limiñanas released the EP, Istanbul is Sleepy earlier this month and it is short, sweet and to the point. The EP only has four tracks total, and in the fifteen minutes it takes to listen to it, The Limiñanas can easily gain new fans.

The EP starts with a track titled “Istanbul is Sleepy” and it sets the listener up nicely for the rest of the EP and what is to be expected from The Limiñanas. Right off the bat, it catches the attention of the listener with the use of distorted drums and guitar riffs. As the track goes on it creates a dramatic vibe with the addition of the deep vocals. It is easy to get lost in the music while listening to this track and letting the mind take the wheel. It is a track that should not be skipped on the EP.

The second track, “Nuit Fantome,” may throw some listeners off, just for the sheer fact that it is all in French. Besides possibly not knowing what is being said, this makes for a fairly solid track on the EP. The instrumental aspect of this track is somewhat reminiscent of an older The Beatles song, especially with the “na na na” in the background of the music. It is a fairly big contrast from the first track on the EP, but offers a fresh sound.

“Shadow People” probably stands out the most on the album because it starts with a tune that is hard to not sway along to. The track has a very airy vibe to it that brings even another level of sound to the EP as a whole. The tambourine mixed with vocals that almost feel distant help achieve this sound for The Limiñanas.

The last track on the album is “Angels and Devils” and it brings the sound of the beginning track full circle. While listening to it, visions of a summer road trip comes to mind and gives the listener that feeling. It is a solid track to end the EP on because it leaves the listener with a positive feeling and view on The Limiñanas as a band. By the end of the EP, it is easy to guess that most people listening to The Limiñanas for the first time through it would be hooked and want more from them, and that is why it is unfortunate that Istanbul is Sleepy is only fifteen minutes in length.
