Theatrical Version Of Chris Cornell’s Music Video for “Promise” Released

According to The PRP, the theatrical version of the late lead vocalist of Soundgarden Chris Cornell‘s video “The Promise” is out now. Cornell wrote the song for the film The Promise, directed by Terry George and starred Academy Award winner Christian Bale. The song originally came out a week before Cornell sadly took his own life this past May.

The theatrical version of “The Promise” displays clips of the movie that shows the treatment suffered by the Greeks at the hands of the Turkish-ruled Ottoman Empire during World War I while showing the late singer in the studio passionately recording the track. Cornell spoke how he hopes that the song and movie will encourage people to go back to study tragic moments in history to better prepare ourselves for the future stating “As humans, we have a tremendous capacity to trudge ahead in our lives and not look at the difficult and challenging moments… but I think it’s important. Educating ourselves on the past is the best way to understand the present and avoid future atrocities by understanding and intervening. We must educate and stand as one to combat this fear and violence, and as citizens of the world, work to protect each other’s human rights.” Cornell backed up his words by donating the proceeds from his song to the International Rescue Committee, who responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster.
