Following the exciting initial promise of a new record from the I Get Wet mastermind Andrew W.K. earlier in June, the madman announced mid-September that he will be definitely coming through with a new American release record for the first time in 15 years.
Titled You’re Not Alone, party god Andrew W.K.’s new release is his first full length studio album released in America since The Wolf in 2003 (discounting the Japanese exclusive Close Calls With Brick Walls from 2006). As announced before, the album will be hitting shelves next spring on March 2 via Sony Music Worldwide.
“I’m going for the sound of pure, unadulterated power; every emotion, every thought, every experience, every sensation, every fear, every joy, every clarity, every confusion, every up, every down… all extruded and concentrated into one thick syrup of super life-force feeling, and then psychically amplified by the celebratory spirit of glorious partying,” said Andrew in a statement about the upcoming album.
The 16-song collection seems to balance its interest in self-indulgent partying with the rest of the cuts which focus on the songwriter’s interest in positivity, reading a bit like chapters in a self-help book. In the press release, the record promises as both a return to the “buoyant, infectious, and triumphant melodies” that we know and love, while following a path to self-actualization through its lyrics.
W.K. has also revealed an absolutely gorgeous album art, and it’s a pretty amazing painting of him standing on a starry street, facing a dragon. The cover was painted by two artists, Boris Vallejo and Julie Bell, who consulted with Andrew over a six-month period to construct the art, and it’s all been documented in a video below.
