Electronic duo, Telefon Tel Aviv, was dealt a heavy blow in 2009. Charles Cooper, one half of the Chicago based band, mysteriously passed in 2009 shortly after the release of their album, Immolate Yourself. After his passing, surviving member, Josh Eustis, took some time away from the group. During his time away, Eustis threw himself into many different projects and collaborations. He toured with Puscifer and Nine Inch Nails, produced for Tropic of Cancer, collaborated with Turk Dietrich in Second Woman, formed the band Black Queen and recorded solo work as Sons of Maddalene.
Seven years later, Eustis is ready to return to Telefon Tel Aviv. According to an interview with the Italian publication Radio Citadel Capo, Eustis is currently working on new material as a solo artist now. Eustis will continue to keep the vision he and Cooper have had for music since their start in New Orleans in 1991, but he will also add new influences. In particular, while their older work was in the ambient techno range with “soft and gentle” sounds, this upcoming album will be “darker” and “angrier.”
The album is half-finished and there is speculation that it will be finished sometime in 2018, but it is not definite. Eustis has already began to show off the new tracks at some of his shows.
