As reported by Rolling Stone, the opening track to the unreleased Waylon Jennings album New Stuff has been released in advance of the record’s release on black Friday record store day. “Good Time” which features a simple arrangement of Jennings singing and playing acoustic guitar, will be released on his son, Shooter Jennings’ record label Black Country Rock. This will mark the first release of new recordings from the late country singer since 1998’s Closing in on the Fire, which ended up being his final release before his untimely death in 2002.
While looking through a box in a warehouse that contains his father’s artifacts, Shooter Jennings found an old cassette labelled “new stuff,” which turned out to be a series of lost recordings. The song rides a slightly dark and sinister vibe, with Jennings’ deep and booming baritone voice taking up much of the sonic territory. While you can hear the audible distortion from the tape recorder in the background, the lo-fi sound of the recording only adds to the mood of the song.
