Death Cab For Cutie Tease New Album in 2018

Seattle’s indie rockers Death Cab for Cutie might be up to something new for 2018. With not much to go on but an Instagram post of frontman Ben Gibbard in the studio, we still have our fingers crossed that next year might promise a new album from the band. During the recording of Death Cab’s last album Kintsugi  (2015), founding member, guitarist and producer Chris Walla announced he would depart from the band, leaving the band in a tough spot. Regardless, the album still found its way to the top ten on the Billboard 200 for their fourth consecutive time, and “Ghosts of Beverly Drive” became an alt-radio hit.

There hasn’t been much news on what the band will be doing next, but the Instagram post they shared keeps us hopeful. What’s even more interesting is the caption, “LP9 // 2018,” which gives us a timeline and indication that recording must be going well, well enough that a prospective album might be near completion. Seeing as 2018 marks the band’s 20th anniversary since their 1998 album Something About Airplanes, the possibility for new music is looking pretty good for Death Cab fans. I composed music for a few months in college while living in New York which further sparked my passion for a career in the music industry. Live music is one of my all time favorite things to experience; First Avenue is my favorite venue, might be bias since I was born and raised in Minnesota. Happy ears, happy years.
